Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 

  • Review the fundamentals of dental examination and assessment in a young child
  • Understand the underlying aetiology of the clinical presentation of the compromised molar tooth/teeth
  • Evaluating the different treatment pathways available for various presenting aetiologies
  • Understand the role of psychology, patient interaction and modes of delivery
  • To effectively formulate a treatment plan when presented with a compromised primary or permanent molar tooth in a young child
  • How to better communicate with the patient and the parents 
  • Clinical technique of tooth preparation for placement of stainless-steel crown in both primary and permanent molar teeth

Presenter Biography

 Dr Sue Taji
BDS (Adel), DClinDent (QLD), FIADT, FICD, FPFA, FADI


Dr Taji maintains a private paediatric dental specialist practice in Brisbane, with specific interests in the management of Dental Trauma, Early Childhood Caries, Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation (MIH) and the management of medically compromised patients and patients with special needs. Dr Taji attained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide in 1999 and worked in private practice in Adelaide and Brisbane for a decade prior to completing her specialty training and attaining a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Queensland in 2010. Dr Taji undertook further studies at Griffith University in 2022, completing a Graduate Certificate in Autism Studies. Holding surgical accreditations at various hospitals, Dr Taji specialises in the management of the oral health care needs of infants, toddlers, kindergarten and school aged children. Dr Sue Taji has served as the federal President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry (ANZSPD) from 2018 to 2020, federal Vice President from 2015 to 2018, federal Councillor from 2012 to 2020 and federal Secretary for the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (AAPD). Completing various research projects during her career, she has published in national and international journals and has authored and co-authored textbook chapters on paediatric dental aspects and is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, Fellow of the International College of Dentists, Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International and Fellow of the IADT.
