Dental Ergonomics
This hands-on course is designed for the entire dental team, including Dentists, Oral Health Therapists, Dental Therapists, Hygienists, Practice Managers and Dental Assistants.

Course Overview

Dental practitioners are at high risk for musculoskeletal disorders and chronic pain, leading to decreased career satisfaction, reduced income, and early retirement. In this course participants will learn how to overcome risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders in the clinical environment, gain an understanding of the specific stresses placed on the dental practitioner’s body, and develop practical solutions to prevent and manage injuries.

This course contains both theoretical and practical components, including a:

  • Workshop on ergonomic postures in the clinical environment, and
  • A series of stretches and core musculature engagement exercises which can be performed in the dental surgery.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Evaluate ergonomic demands placed on dental practitioners’ body
  • Identify and modify risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders in the clinical environment
  • Implement optimal ergonomic postures for delivering dental treatment
  • Apply injury prevention and management strategies such as core stability exercises and other maintenance techniques.
