COURSE OVERVIEW
The 2-day course is designed to give a strong emphasis on experiential learning from a Hands-on component and free-flowing discussion. Didactic learning will focus on clinically applicable concepts with case examples and scientific evidence-based learning. Hands-on components will involve experience with endodontic management of multiple tooth types and a spectrum of endodontic procedures. These include vital pulp therapy procedures, managing transported canals, managing second mesio-buccal canals for maxillary molars, non-surgical endodontic treatment using contemporary rotary (Ni Ti) file systems and obturation techniques, and re-treatment procedures.
The aim is to give confidence to the attendee to provide endodontic treatment for their patients to the highest standard, which is supported by knowledge of the best current evidence.
Topics covered:
- Endodontic diagnosis and endodontic disease.
- Goal of Endodontic treatment.
- Role of asepsis in endodontics.
- Anatomy of molar teeth.
- Role of CBCT in modern endodontics.
- Vital pulp therapy for traumatic and carious pulp exposure.
- Calcium silicate cements for vital pulp therapy.
- Conservative endodontic access preparation.
- Locating second mesio-buccal canals for maxillary molar teeth.
- Working length determination and electronic apex locators.
- Endodontic rotary file types (heat treated).
- Glide path management, canal space instrumentation and disinfection for canals with multi-planar curvature.
- Managing canal transportation- bypassing ledges.
- Chemical disinfection activation/agitation techniques.
- Intra-canal medicament and temporization.
- Endodontic flare up.
- Modern concepts in root canal obturation.
- Post-endodontic restorative management.
- Reasons for endodontic treatment failure.
- Non-surgical endodontic retreatment.
- Principles of endodontic surgical management
Attendees are required to bring 2 maxillary first molar teeth for the hands-on component of the course.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Develop a good understanding of current clinically relevant scientific evidence in endodontics.
- Proficient use of contemporary endodontic instrumentation, disinfection methods and obturation techniques.
- Safely locate second mesio-buccal root canal space, manage transported canals and manage non-surgical endodontic re-treatment cases.
- Provide endodontic treatment with predictable success and in depth understanding of reason for treatment failure.
