Learning Objectives
- Develop a working knowledge of the latest periodontal classification and how to use it for periodontal diagnosis
- Understand how to carry out a thorough examination that can capture relevant risk factors and inform periodontal prognosis and diagnosisÂ
- Periodontal Treatment planning and differentiating the roles of surgical and non-surgical therapy
- Discussion of how to carry out non-surgical debridement using hand-instruments, airpolishing devices and ultrasonics
- Understand expected outcomes after non-surgical therapy and when to consider surgical intervention. Have working knowledge of what cases might benefit from surgical treatment and expected outcomes
- Supportive periodontal therapy as the gateway to maintaining periodontal stability
- Hands-on exercises for instrumentation with hand-curettes and ultrasonics
PRESENTER BIOGRAPHy
Dr Marina KamelÂ
Dr Marina Kamel is a Brisbane-based periodontist at Westside Perio & Implants. She completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery with Distinction at Otago University in 2012. She obtained a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Periodontics) and specialist training in implants at Sydney University in 2019. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS) in general practice and has membership (MRACDS) in Periodontics. Dr Kamel is the President of the Australian Society of Periodontology and Vice President of the Australasian Osseointegration Society in Queensland. Dr Kamel received multiple academic and research awards during her professional career. She received the FG Christensen medal for obtaining the highest ranking in the primary RACDS examinations in 2013. She has received the reputable Judith and Dr. Mario Adamo Implant Innovation Scholarship for her research work in 2018 as well as the Osteology Foundation Research Award for her research in 2020.Â
Outside of periodontics, Marina enjoys running, swimming and tennis. She loves travelling and spending time with her family and friends in the great outdoors.
