COURSE OVERVIEW
Endodontics often present with various challenges to the clinician. These may include difficulty in diagnosis, treatment planning, pain management, Rubber dam isolation, access cavity preparation, negotiation of curved/calcified canals, disinfection and obturation. Therefore, this course is designed for general dental practitioners who wish to gain more confidence in managing patients who requires root canal therapy.
This workshop includes two days of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops on 3D models and extracted teeth highlighting the benefits of illumination/magnification like operating microscopes, ultrasonics, advanced rotary canal preparation, newer irrigation devices, three dimensional obturation techniques/systems and materials to achieve predictable coronal seal.
The workshop also includes Case based learning focusing on diagnosis, treatment planning and problem solving in non-Surgical root canal treatment and retreatment.
Topics covered during the lecture and workshop:
1. Diagnosis and Treatment Planning
2. Bacteriology of endodontic disease
3. Management of hot tooth
4. Root morphology
5. Use of CBCT in endodontics
6. Mechanical properties of endodontic instruments
7. Access cavity preparation
8. Ultrasonic instrumentation
9. Successful negotiation of all the canals: the importance of a glide path preparation of curved canals.
10. Apex Locators
11. Rotary /Reciprocation in Endodontics
12. Preparation of curved canals
13. Disinfection in Endodontics
14. Intracanal medicaments and temporary fillings
15. Sealers – resin-based and bio-ceramic sealers
16. Three dimensional obturation techniques
17. How to overcome failures
18. Contemporary endodontic techniques, using an evidence-based scientific approach.
19. Apical and coronal seals
20. Retreatment
21. Use of MTA in Endodontics
22. Clinical tips to make Endo easy and fun.
Delegates will be required to provide the following extracted teeth for this course:
1 x maxillary first pre molar
1 x maxillary first molar
1 x mandibular first molar
Teeth can be brought in on the course date, or posted in prior to Australian Dental Association QLD Branch, PO Box 611, Albion, 4010.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Develop integrated knowledge of root canal morphological variations, the concept of minimal invasive endodontics, and their impact on endodontic treatment outcomes in multi-rooted teeth.
- Understand the concept of role of biofilms in Endodontic infection and its eradication.
- Perform non-surgical root canal therapy using a rotary system.
- Identify possible outcomes of root canal therapy of multi-rooted teeth, as well as the need for future supportive care, prevention, and maintenance.
